Obituary, published Aug. 26, 1876, in the Dubuque Herald:

"Death of Mary Ann Aaron. -Mrs. Mary Ann, wife of Phillip Aaron, colored, died yesterday about noon, at the family residence on Clay street, near the corner of 4th. She was afflicted with a disease of the heart. Her age was 45 years, and she leaves one child living, having lost four. The funeral will take place to-day, 2 p.m., and she will be buried in the Third Street cemetery. Deceased was an industrious woman and aided her husband by labor and thrift in the affairs of life. All who knew her esteemed the many good traits in her character."

Four children who preceded her in death and are presumed buried here.
