Harold W. Abbas, 94, of Marshalltown and formerly from Janesville, Iowa passed away on Monday, February 10, 2014 at the VA Home in Marshalltown.
Harold William Abbas was born on October 5, 1919, the son of George and Tillie (Lohse) Abbas in Ackley, Iowa. He graduated from Hudson High School. He then worked in the box factory in Waterloo. In 1941, he was drafted by the US Army, serving during WW II until his discharge in 1945. On April 8, 1942, he was united in marriage to Verna Weatherman in Marshalltown, Iowa.
Harold worked for John Deere and then in the implement business for several years in various communities. He was then employed by Nestle in Waverly, before owning and operating a restaurant in Union. He retired and moved to Florida where he held different odd jobs.
He was a member Janesville American Legion and Past commander of the VFW in Eldora. Harold enjoyed fishing, making cypress clocks and repairing them, attending auctions, Polka music, dancing, feeding birds and making Christmas Balls with lights.
Survivors are his two sons, Gary (Bea) Abbas of Long Grove, Iowa and Rod (Sue Strohecker) of Iron River, Wisconsin; daughter, Judy Pratt of Waterloo, Iowa; 8 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Helen Bjork.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly with Pastor Deborah Coble Wise officiating. Burial will be in the VA Cemetery in Marshalltown on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 11:00 am. Friends may call from 10:00 am until service time on Saturday.
