Billy Gene Abell, 84, of Leavenworth, died Saturday, February 15, 2014, at the Robley Rex VA Medical Center in Louisville. He was born May 5, 1929, in Winslow, Indiana, to the late George Hamilton and Ione Mildred Waller Abell. He was retired insurance broker/agent, was a member of the Evangel World Prayer Center, the V.F.W. Post 2950 in Corydon, the American Legion Post 84 in Marengo and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Bettie Ruth Major Abell; his son, William Gene Abell of Leavenworth; his step son, Joseph Michael Stevens, Sr. of Louisville; his sister, Nancy Ellen Abell-Fow of Louisville; and his grandchildren, Joseph Michael Stevens, II, Michelle Dawn Stevens and Sarah Alexis Bottger.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon. Burial will be in Leavenworth Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to Hosparus of Southern Indiana.
