ADA — Memorial Services for Joe Haynes Bonar, 79, Ada, are 2 p.m. Tuesday at
First Baptist Church, the Rev. John Haynes will officiate. Burial follows at
Rosedale Cemetery.

Visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Criswell Funeral Home.

Mr. Bonar died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, at a local hospital. He was born April
3, 1925, at Henryetta, Okla., to Clyde L. and Jama Haynes Bonar.

He graduated from Horace Mann High School and also attended East Central State
College. After serving in the U.S. Army-Air Corps in World War II, he
returned to Ada in 1946.

He married Patricia Phelps at in 1948. They enjoyed their children,
grandchildren, world travel, friends and sunsets. Joe also enjoyed golf and
good conversation.

A longtime Ada businessman, Joe worked in the family business, Bonar Auto
Supply, from 1938 to 1965 when he and his brother Bob purchased it from their
father. In 1982, Joe became sole owner and passed it to his son Bruce in
1989.

A civic leader, Joe served as Ada City councilman and mayor. He also
represented this area in AWO, Automotive Wholesalers of Oklahoma. A member of
Ada Kiwanis Club for more than 50 years, he served in many capacities,
including president in 1969.

Joining First Baptist Church in 1938, he served many years as a deacon, sang
in the church choir and worked in Sunday School.

Survivors include wife, Pat Bonar of the home; five children, Susie
Stringfield and husband Mark, Spring, Texas, Bruce Bonar and wife Patti, Ada,
Missy Cantrell and husband Pete, Ada, Barry Bonar and wife Kim, Garland,
Texas, and Margie Bull and husband James, Kingston; 15 grandchildren, Michael,
Melissa and Scott Stringfield, Jessica Tidwell and husband John, Molly,
Bradford, Caleb and Daniel Bonar, Lauren Akolkar and husband Raj, Julia and
Jay Austen Cantrell, Josh and Zach Bonar, Cassie and Corey Bull; one brother,
Bob and wife Jimmie Lou Bonar, Ada.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, A.J. Svetgoff.

Donations may be directed to Valley View Hospital Dialysis Unit, Gideons
International or First Baptist Church Building Fund. The family extends
heartfelt thanks to Valley View Hospital Dialysis Unit and Alterra Sterling
House personnel for their friendship and loving care.
