Delta resident Cris M. Abeyta passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at her residence in Delta, Colorado. She was 76.
Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 20, 2014 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Delta, Colorado. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 21, 2014, also at St. Michael's Catholic Church, with Father Albiero Herrera-Ciro officiating. Interment will follow at Mesa View Cemetery in Delta, Colorado.
Cris M. Salazar was born on February 16, 1938, to Epifiano and Maria Elena (Martinez) Salazar in Gallina, New Mexico. She spent her childhood and attended schools in Gallina. In 1957, Cris and her family moved to Delta.
On December 31, 1958, Cris married the love of her life, Jimmy Abeyta. To this union 10 children were born.
Cris enjoyed embroidering, tending to her plants and cooking. More importantly, she was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her large family. She also loved her dog, Chico.
Cris was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Delta, Colorado.
Cris is survived by her 10 children: son, James Abeyta, of Delta, CO., daughter, Rosemary Diaz and spouse, Tomas, of Johnstown, CO, daughter, Kathy Arambulo and spouse, Isaac, of Colorado Springs, CO, son, Eddie Abeyta and spouse, Angie, daughter, Christina Hernandez, all of Delta, son, Anthony Abeyta and spouse, Debbie, of Ft. Morgan, CO, son, Donald Abeyta and spouse, Miranda, of Delta, son, Jerry Abeyta, of Pueblo, CO daughter, JoAnn Abeyta, of Montrose, CO, and daughter, Tammie Abeyta and spouse, Mario Gonzalez, of Delta; she helped raise five grandchildren: Monica, Robert, Melissa, Armando and Prisilla; three brothers: Mike Salazar and spouse, Kay, Ralph Salazar and Pat Salazar, all of Delta, CO; five sisters: Cleo Giron and spouse, Sam, of Cedaredge, CO, Senida Cruz, Mary Romero and spouse, Willie, all of Delta, Sally Hernandez and spouse, Jose of Austin, CO, and Margie Sanchez and spouse, George of Delta; 42 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Cris was preceded in death by her parents, Epifiano and Maria Salazar; husband, Jimmy Abeyta; two brothers, Joe and Pete Salazar; and a sister, Betty Hipol.
