Joyce Ann Douglas Abbott, age 70, of Taylorsville, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. She was born in Alexander County on August 23, 1943 to the late Benjamin Fincher Douglas and Cleo Gant Douglas. Joyce was a retired purchasing agent at Alexvale Furniture and was a member of East Taylorsville Baptist Church. She enjoyed going to the YMCA, loved her dog, Sophie, and loved church and Sunday School. Joyce also loved getting together once a month with special friends from Alexvale Furniture to have food and fellowship. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos W. Abbott; sisters: Opal Clark, Dorothy Douglas, and Gladys J. Fisher; and brothers: Willis Douglas and Bill Douglas. Those left to cherish her memory include sisters: Geraldine Douglas of Conover, and Alma Friday of Charlotte; nieces: Mrs. Kimberly Shaw, Mrs. Sonja Whittington, Mrs. Anita Hemingway, Ms. Brenda Clark, Ms. Darlene Crisp, Ms. Donna Douglas, and Mrs. Kimberly Sharpe; sister-in-laws: Mrs. Francis Douglas and Mrs. Nevada Douglas; and nephews: Michael Dougals, Steven Douglas, and Bing Friday, Jr.

Visitation will be held Monday, March 24, 2014 from 2:00 pm until 3:30 pm at Alexander Funeral Service. A graveside service will follow at 4:00 pm at Stony Point Cemetery with the Rev. Jamie Steele and Rev. Gary Jennings officiating. Memorials may be sent to East Taylorsville Baptist Church at PO Box 906; Taylorsville, NC 28681.
