Arnold Evans Abernathy, age 89, of Hayesville, NC passed away Sunday, March 23, 2014 in Laurens, SC.

He was a native of Monroe County, TN and the son of the late Floyd and Ester Amanda Evans Abernathy.

Arnold was retired from the US Navy where he was a cook and was always known for having that coffee pot ready! He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, the Clay County Masonic Lodge #301 and the local Hayesville V.F.W. Post #6812 (Allison-Bristol) and the R.O.T.C. in Knoxville, TN. Arnolds hobby was woodworking. He worked on houses with F.H.A. and had also worked in the Post Office and Clay County Sheriffs Department.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Vicki Cales; two step-sons, Jerry Burch and Bobby Burch and one step-daughter, Ginger Sue Woodall.

He is survived by his wife, Violet Millsaps Abernathy; one son, Ricky Abernathy; two daughters, Jeanine McLoud and Dianne Chamberland; one sister, Virginia Dobson; two step children, Rodney Hal Burch and Teddy Joel Burch; several grandchildren and great grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM, Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel of Hayesville. Elder Jennings Bristol will officiate. Burial will be in the Hayesville United Methodist Church Cemetery.
