Mr. Aasby died Wednesday, April 27, 2005. He was 83.
Born in Highmore, S.D., on April 15, 1922, he was the son of Mae and Paul Aasby. He spent his younger years working on the ranch in Holabird, S.D.
He served in the Army during World War II, taking part in the Normandy Invasion. After the war, he worked in many different places as a ranch hand. An avid outdoorsman, he also worked for the Arizona Game and Fish Department in Phoenix.
He married Betty Conner on Feb. 12, 1956. The family moved to Oregon in 1966. After living just outside Yamhill for many years, they moved to Carlton in 1995.
Mr. Aasby could always count on a helping hand from his friend, Tom Belt, the family said, and was always willing to help a friend in turn.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Larry of Carlton; two daughters, Sharon Aasby of Yamhill and Carol Ashbrook of Wiggins, Colo.; a brother, Keith of Highmore, S.D.; a sister, Elinor White of Pierre, S.D.; and five grandchildren.
