At age 22, he enlisted in the U.S. military serving World War I. Later, still early in his life, he worked as a porter on a train line serving the U.S. east coast, and also as a stewart, on the Clydelines fleet of cruise lines.
Later in life, Mr. Aarons, owned several homes and a service station in Jacksonville, Florida. He served as Scout Master to Boy Scouts of America, troop 79. He earned the Silver Beaver for thirty years of service. Mr. Aarons was an active member of Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal church. He was a delightful person, kind, full of compassion for the unfortunate, and all that knew him. He shared amazing love for his family, and friends. He had a delightful sense of humor, always sharing family stories of the past, an impeccable dresser, and an amazing cook. He loved to share fruits, veggies and eggs from his farm.
Lonzo Aarons' brother, Jesse James Aaron (1887 -1979) was a Master Artist, an iconic folk wood sculptor. The University of Florida among many art galleries, display Jesse's works. His home is on the national register. He lived in Gainesville, Florida and is buried at Fort Call Cemetery, Worthington, Union County, Florida, Memorial ID # 33541083.
Lonzo's sister, Iona Aarons Walker (1892-1993) is resting in Edgewood Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida ( Duval County) , Memorial ID # 139519265.
According to historical records, many of the AARON(S) family's ancestors acquired land in the 1800's in Hamilton County, Florida from slaveholder Colonel Francis Ross, according to his will dated March 25, 1861.
