Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan with Pastor Don Lusk officiating. Burial with military rites conducted by the Scott Air Force Base Honor Guard will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Ludlow Twp. Cemetery, Ludlow, IL. Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday. Mr. Palumbo was born May 4, 1936 in Danbury, Connecticut, the son of Dominic and Elsie Gebert Palumbo. Jim was a U.S. Air Force Vietnam veteran. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service and then retired after 14 years in civil service. He was a member of the Mattoon Moose, Sullivan VFW and Sullivan American Legion. Jim loved to go fishing and play golf and played on the Moose golf league. Jim married Darlyne Kay Sims on June 20, 1958 and she preceded him in death on April 26, 1996. He then married Lucy Hilliard on March 1, 2008 and she survives.
Also surviving are their children, Mike (Tharla) Palumbo of Ludlow and Chris (Carol) Hilliard of Atwood; grandchildren, Tawny, Parker and Paxton Palumbo, all of Ludlow; Erin, Sarah and Melissa Hilliard, all of Atwood; nephews, Richard Palumbo of Pawling, N.Y. and Steven Palumbo of Raleigh, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife and a son, Anthony E. Palumbo.
