ESCHELS, LOIS Lois (Austin)

Eschels was born October 30, 1921 in Denver, CO and died on April 10, 2014.

She lived her early years in Three Rivers, MI, then graduated from Davenport College, and lived thereafter in Grand Rapids, MI.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Marguerite Dolph and Jean Brooks.

Surviving are her husband, Carl Eschels; sons, Curtis (Linda) Eschels, Olympia, WA and Philip (Mary) Eschels, Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Scott (Anne) Eschels, Vancouver, WA, Kristen (Maiko) Williams, Denver, CO, Katherine Eschels, Louisville, KY, and Brian and Serena Eschels, Olympia, WA; great grandchildren, Rachel, Katelyn, Josie and Evan in Vancouver, WA and Taylor, Jordyn and Kela in Denver, CO; also Frank (Beverly) Graves and Nicole, Zachary and Scott Graves; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lois was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and had served on the Fellowship Board, Altar Guild and Mother's Club. She was a founding member of the Nellie Clements Guild of Spectrum Hospital and served on the Womens Auxiliary Board. She was also on the Board of the Women's City Club and the Board of Visiting Nurse Services. Lois lived the last 11 years in the Porter Hills Health Center and Green House, where her cheerful disposition and positive outlook were an inspiration to all the wonderful people who took care of her.

Services will be held Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 11 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2 Michigan St., at Division Ave., Grand Rapids, with the Rev. Craig Bickel officiating. An hour of visiting will be held prior to the service. Parking is located next to the church. The family will meet with friends Wednesday from 2-5 PM at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Memorial contributions, if desired, may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Porter Hills Foundation.
