Information supplied by Highlanders Camp #1530 Sons of Confederate Veterans, member Sherman Taylor:
Pvt. George M. Allen was with Company A, “Newnan Guards,” 1st (Ramsey’s) Georgia Infantry, after enlisting on March 18, 1861, at Macon, Ga. He was from Coweta County, Ga., and died on Aug. 11, 1861, of disease. Nothing relating to his date of birth or age has been found. The 1850 Census lists two George Allens who could be this soldier, but there is no way to be certain. One was a 14-year-old born about 1836 in Morgan, Ga.; the other was a 12-year-old born about 1838 in Appling, Ga.
This Confederate Cemetery is located across the street from the Highland Medical Center on route 220 south. There is only one marked grave (stone placed there in the 1890's) The remaining graves are distinguished by the sunken ground for each grave and can only be seen when the field is mowed.
