Born in St. Anthony to Gene and Donna Wright Abegglen, Michael Gene Abegglen, 55, of Idaho Falls, died at his home following a long battle with cancer.

Growing up and attending schools in St. Anthony, he graduated from South Fremont High School. While completing an aircraft mechanics-training program at Ricks College, he met Susan Hope Cutchsahw from Decatur, Georgia. They were married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple August 27, 1971.

Serving in many leadership positions in the LDS Church, he excelled in the scouting program. Besides skiing, snowmobile, sports and camping, he loved working with the youth in sports, including coaching many of the teams his children were on. Thrilled at the opportunity to travel, a highlight for him was a trip to Europe. Having a sharp wit and never without a joke, he spent his life enjoying others, helping them to feel good about themselves. He was a great storyteller.

Besides his wife, Susan Cutchshaw Abegglen, he is survived by children: Bryan Michael Abegglen, Bethany Dawn Abegglen Fair, Sean Christopher Abegglen, Danny Brett Abegglen, Jeffrey Michael Abegglen, daughter-in law, Heidi Abegglen; son-in-law, Robert Fair; mother, Donna Willyne Wright Abegglen; siblings: Kim Abegglen, Zane Abegglen, Ryan Abegglen, Sherry Abegglen Robison, Cinda Abegglen Loucks, Penny Abegglen Albiston and Jacque Abegglen; granddaughter, Emory Abegglen and grandson, Carter Fair. His father, Gene Abegglen, predeceased Michael.
