Pauline Parker Abernathy left her earthly body and went to her heavenly reward on Saturday, June 21, 2014.
Pauline was born in Union County, NC on July 26, 1918, the oldest daughter of Bert Parker and Myrtle Marze Parker. She grew up in the Wesley Chapel community, and except for a short period in the early 1940's, lived her entire life within a one mile radius of where she was born.
Known fondly as Granny by most who knew her, she served her God, her family and her community faithfully. She was a lifetime member of Siler Presbyterian Church where she was known for her dumpling making, her quiet smile and her willingness to do whatever needed to be done.
Pauline graduated from Wesley Chapel School and worked in the cafeterias at both Wesley Chapel and Sun Valley High School. She retired from Comar Industries in Monroe and spent her retirement years digging in her flower beds. She took great pride in her yard and was thrilled to share cuttings and bulbs with anyone who asked.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David (Bud) Abernathy, brothers; Herman Parker and Frank Parker, sisters: Mabel Parker Robinson and Myrtle Parker Rogers and great granddaughter; Jessica Champion.
She is survived by two sisters, Ellen McElhaney of Charlotte and Willie Ruth Long of Mint Hill.
Also surviving is her son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Barbara Abernathy of Waxhaw, daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Terry Philbrick of Warrensville, NC, six grandchildren and their spouses; Carol and Tim Lowe of Weddington, Brian and Penny Philbrick of Warrensville, NC, TJ and Jill Philbrick of Marvin, Sharon and Jeff Champion of Indian Trail, Becky and Scott Taylor of Monroe and Bobby and Ashlyn Abernathy of Midland, fifteen great grand children; Parker Lowe, Gini Champion, Jared Champion, Pollie Taylor, Dylan Abernathy, Dalton Abernathy, Thomas Philbrick, Anna Philbrick, Marta Philbrick, Elijah Philbrick, Joshua Philbrick, Brian Philbrick, Jr. and wife Shawna, Zach Wooten and Maddie Wooten, and one great –great granddaughter, Brooklynn Marie Philbrick.
