Orlo Arthur Shanenko, age 83 of Valley City died July 2, 2014 at Maryhill Manor in Enderlin, ND under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 PM Wednesday evening at Trinity Lutheran Church in Valley City. Interment will take place in Memory Gardens Cemetery near Valley City. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM at the church on Wednesday.
Orlo was born to Steve and Mary (Rietze) Shanenko on Feb. 6,1931 in Valley City. He attended rural school in Stewart Township. On Sept. 18, 1949 he married Irene Friestad and they were married for 62 years. Orlo and Irene lived on a farm north of Valley City until he retired in 1987 and then moved into Valley City. Orlo spent his entire life farming; first with his father, and then with his sons. He enjoyed farming and liked to try new farming technologies. Orlo was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and had served on the church council. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Orlo is survived by his three children: Bruce (Jeanne) Shanenko, Greg (Darlene) Shanenko all of Valley City, ND and Diane (Steve) Odegaard of Fargo, ND, 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Julie DiAngio, and infant daughter Janice and a brother Rodney.
