Claire Louise Abendroth, age 86, of Hendersonville, went home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, April 9, 2010 at the Elizabeth House.
She is survived by her daughter Carol Abendroth of Hendersonville and preceded in death by her husband Carl and sons Bob and Rick.
She was born in Lisbon Falls, Maine on March 21, 1924. She was adopted in 1927 by her new loving parents Louis and Melitta Lauman and was reared in Garden City, Long Island. She graduated Garden City High School in 1942, attended secretarial school and worked for a firm in Manhattan until her marriage to Carl Abendroth on October 19, 1946. She and her husband eventually settled into their own home in N. Merrick, New York and brought up their three children.
She loved to cook and sew and would often make outfits for her ever-growing daughter. Another one of her favorite things to do was to travel. She was able to visit many places in the United States and Europe.
She enjoyed her many friends and met together monthly to play a friendly game of Canasta. She volunteered many hours for a local hospital auxiliary helping to raise money at their thrift store. Her hard work and dedication resulted in her becoming president of the auxiliary in 1968.
She and her husband loved to sing and became very active members of the Barbershop Quartet Singing Society, competing in contests throughout the United States and England. They retired to North Carolina in 1982. Here she enjoyed living the country life and took up hew hobby of painting. She proudly displayed her work throughout her home and area businesses.
A service in memory of Claire will be held in Thos. Shepherd's Church Street Chapel on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Bob Chuprevich officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
