Joseph Ernest Boring was born on Sept. 23, 1902. He married Miss Frankie M. Worley of Forest City, Mo.., on July 31, 1929. They lived at Forest City and had one daughter, Betty Joan, born May 14, 1930. She married Donald Lee Acklin of Graham, Mo.
Joseph was the grandson of Albin and Elizabeth Piles Boring. They came to Missouri by covered wagon, driving one horse and one ox. Upon their arrival they purchased a tract of land located three and one-half miles west of Maitland, paying $7.50 an acre. They had one son, who died in infancy and an adopted son, Norman Ernest, who married Frances Emaline Miles of Forest City on Sept. 20, 1893 at Oregon, Mo. These were the parents of Joseph Ernest. He had five siblings, Edna Mildred who married Jake Meadows of Maitland, Cecil Aben, who married Mary Gillilland of Skidmore, Mo., Juanita Elizabeth, who married Wilbur Henry Mowry of Graham, Lena Naomi, and Lucy Frances, who married Irvin A. Roberts of Halls, Mo.

"MOUND CITY, Mo.-Joseph E. Boring, Mound City, died Saturday, May 24, 1997, at an Oregon, Mo., health care center.

He was born Sept. 23, 1902, near Maitland, MO., and attended Maitland schools.

Mr. Boring was a lifetime resident of Holt County.

He worked at Turney's Store, Forest City, Mo., from 1940 to 1967, then at the Oregon Water Plant from 1967 to 1974, when he retired.

Mr. Boring was a member of the Forest City United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge, where he received his 50-year pin in 1994.

On July 31, 1929, he married Frankie M. Worley. She survives of the health-care center.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Norman and Frances; a brother, Cecil; an infant brother; four sisters, Edna Miller, Lucy Roberts, Lena Boring, and Juanita Mowry; and a great-grandchild.

Additional survivors: a daughter, Betty Acklin, Mound City; a brother, J.L. St. Joseph; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Chamberlain Funeral Home, Mound City. Burial: Maitland Cemetery. Friends may call after 1 p.m. today, at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends 3 p.m. today."
