Billy Allen Hurst Sr. was born Dec. 23, 1930, the son of the late Charles Morton and Mary Elizabeth Beverly Hurst of Robersonville where his father served as mayor for 20 years. After graduating from high school, he attended college, earning a degree in Business Administration. He served four years in the Coast Guard, returning home to work in the family businesses of farming, manufacturing concrete block and ice. In 1957, he bought a sand pit and block plant in Greenville. He opened Hurst Concrete Products Co. Inc., which he operated until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Hurst Adler of Miami, Fla.; and brother, Charles Morton Hurst Jr. of Robersonville.

He is survived by his wife, the former Alice Ann Winfield of Chocowinity; and children, Beverly Ann Blount Hurst, Billy Allen Hurst Jr., Robert Winfield Hurst, and Benjamin Burton Hurst, all of Greenville.
