Ruth Winslow Self, 88, of Elizabeth City, NC died Sunday, August 3, 2014 at Heritage Care. Born in Hertford, NC, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Daisy King Winslow and was the wife of the late Edward Franklin Self, Jr. Mrs. Self was a member of Ramoth Gilead Baptist Church and a past member of the WMU. She was retired from Rose's.
Mrs. Self is survived by a son, Jeffery L. Self and wife Lee Ann of South Mills, NC; two daughters-in-law, Frankie Self of Elizabeth City, NC and Marsha Self of Columbia, SC; a brother, Lawrence Winslow of Perquimans County, NC; eight grandchildren, Jason Cartwright of Roxboro, NC, Travis Edwards of Pollocksville, NC, Wayne Self of Elizabeth City, NC, Kimberly McCutchen of Myrtle Beach, SC, Michael Self, Jr. of Edenton, NC, Jennifer Self of Elizabeth City, NC and Clayton Self and Whitney Self, both of Greenville, NC; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Self Harris; three sons, Terry Self, Michael Self, Sr. and Timothy Self; three brothers, Cyril Winslow, Derl Winslow and Earl Winslow; three sisters, Flora Tatterson, Ethia Adams and Novella Perry and a grandson, Jim Cartwright.
A funeral service will take place Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Twiford Memorial Chapel with the Rev. F. Joe Griffith and the Rev. Ken Littleton officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
