He grew up involved in the family plastering business, Raymond F. Burnham & Son in Maryland. Later he owned the package store, Glen Bernie Liquors, in Maryland. He moved to Athol in 1970 and worked as a plasterer of the Boston Local Union for L.S. Starrett Company for 10 years. After retiring from Starrett, he worked for several plastering companies.
He enjoyed gardening, snowmobiling and golf.
