Adams Review - From Mower Co. Hist Soc/Grand Meadow Record, Feb. 18, 1909, Page 3 Column 3/Harvey Sathre Estate:

Tidmand Knutson Aaberg died January 16th at his farm home in Duel county, S. D. He was born January 27, 1826, in Aurdal, Valdres, Norway. In 1848 he left his native land and went to Canada, remaining there only a short time. From there he went to Madison, Wis., where he remained only a short time. He came on foot from Madison to Mower county, where he took a homestead and lived until 1903.

He was first married to Miss Sigri Olesdtr. Finhart of Grand Meadow, the daughter of Ole Finhart who came from Valdres and settled in the Bear Creek area. Of this union one daughter was born, Mrs. Peter Anney, of Elmore, Minn. His wife died three years later.

He lived as a widower for ten years and then married Gurvi Botum of Freeborn county. Two sons were born of this marriage, Andrew and Carl, who both reside in Canada.

Funeral services were held Jan. 19, Rev. O. M. Orwall officiating. Mr. Knutson was well known here, where he lived for so many years, and his many friends will be pained to learn of his death.

Tiedeman was married to Sigri Oldsdtr. Finhart on 12/27/1867. Sigri was born 12/6/1848 and died 8/25/1879. They had one daughter, Marit (Mary) - 5/25/1870-4/19/1957, Elmore Minnesota. She was married in 1891 to Peter Anning.

Tiedeman remarried Jori Botun on 12/26/1882. They had two sons, Karl Gilbert (b.1/27/1888) and Henry Serinius (b.5/20/1884).

Tiedeman's brothers were Tidemann (Tomas) (b. 2/7/1828); Arne (b.9/29/1841), Erick (b.6/19/1831) and Haldor (b.5/10/1838). Haldor went by the name Albert Knutson.

From the History of Little Cedar, written by Hans Jacob Hanson, 1909:
The first church was built of logs, 30 feet by 40 feet, and 16 feet high. Each member of the congregation was assigned the responsibility of furnishing a certain number of logs. Tideman Knutsen Aaberg, Toris Olsen Flaten of “Six Mile Grove” shaped the timbers and erected the main body of the church, while Ole Thorstad and Arne Johnson Fossen executed the rest of the carpenter work for the interior and so forth.

Digitalarkivet lists Tidemand Knudsen from the Aaberg farm, born 2/7/1828; emmigrated in 1852.

From an email dated 10/29/2006 from Harvey Sathre to Viggo Fosse:

"Tiedeman Aaberg went by the name of Thomas Knutson while living in Adams. Thomas was very influential in the community. After the organization of the local church (Little Cedar) in 1859, all the services were held at his place of residence. If weather permitted they held church under a big tree in his yard. If not, they were held in his house. He was one of the organizers of the church. He also oversaw the building of the first church, a log structure."

From an email dated 10/27/2006 from Harvey Sathre to Viggo Fosse:
"Immigrated to Mower County in 1853 and settled in the Bear Creek area north of Grand Meadow. In 1855, they moved to Adams Township, Mower County and put up their first cabin there. The family is credited as being the first Norwegians in Mower County."

From the South Dakota State Historical Society Archives: T. Knudson died in his home east of Brandt at the age of 81 years. He was buried at the Highland cemetery in Norden last Tuesday, Rev. Orwall from Toronto officiating. He leaves a bereaved widow, two sons and a daughter. - Deuel Co. Advocate.
