AIKEN, SC -- SAMUEL JAMES ABBOTT, 84, of Florala, AL, died Thursday, October 20, 2011 at his son's home in Aiken.

A native of Cambridge, MA, Mr. Abbott was a son of the late John and Greta Fifield Abbott. He was veteran of World War II, serving in the 42nd Army Air Corps. He was a retired general manager of Boston Woven Hose, a subsidiary of America Builtrite Rubber. After his retirement he relocated to Florala, AL in 1981. He was a member and ordained deacon at Smyrna Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Stephen (Angela Grant) Abbott, Aiken, SC, and Jay (Cheryl) Abbott, Hudson, MA; a daughter, Sharon Murphy, Kanata, Ontario, Canada; a sister, Dorothy (Walter) Leonard, Manchaster, NH, a brother, John (Clair) Abbott, Saugus, MA; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Evelyn N. Abbott on December 26, 2010.

A memorial service, with Military Honors, will be held Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 1:00 PM CST at Smyrna Baptist Church in Florala, AL. The Rev. Randy Holtz will officiate.
