May 15, 1932 - July 26, 2014

Walter R. “Wally” Pederson, age 82, rural Willow Lake, died peacefully on Saturday, July 26, 2014 in the Golden Living Center at Clark with family at his side after a brief illness due to cancer.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 from 5-7 PM at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark and will continue at the Church in Clark on Thursday morning after 9:30.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at 10:30 AM in the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Clark with The Reverend Gary Anderson officiating. Casketbearers will be Brad Temple, Darin Michalski, Jerald Severson, Kyle Stern, Brady Pederson and David Hinderaker. Burial with full military honors performed by the Cagley-Smith American Legion Post #60 of Clark and the South Dakota Army National Honor Guard will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark.

He was born on May 15, 1932 in Merton Township, Clark County, south of Clark, the last child born to Hendie O. and Christina T. (Aaker) Pederson. Wally attended school in Day Township. The family moved to Hague Township in 1949 where they continued farming.

In August of 1955 he was inducted into the US Army and served his country honorably until August of 1957. After his discharge he returned to the family farm where he has farmed since that time. In addition to his love of the land, Wally thoroughly enjoyed attending auctions sales and working with horses.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church at Clark.

Preceding him in death were his parents and siblings, Gladys (Anton) Temple, Thelma (John) Steen, Hazel (Albert) Alness, Leonard (Shirley) Pederson, Myrtle (James) McGrilles and Oliver Wayne Pederson and a sister-in-law, Marge Pederson.

Grateful for having shared in his life is a sister of Watertown and a brother of Clark. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated in his memory to the South Dakota Public Broadcasting.
