A Mass of Christian Burial for Vernon David Abatte Sr., 52, affectionately known as “Red The Bread” was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at St. Edward Catholic Church. Monsignor Ronald Broussard officiated.

Committal and Interment followed in St. Edward Church Cemetery.

Visitation was at 7 a.m. Saturday at Journet & Bolden Funeral Home Chapel until time of services with the recitation of the rosary at 9:30 a.m.

Vernon was a native and lifelong resident of New Iberia. He passed away suddenly on the evening of Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at Dauterive Hospital.

He served his country as a veteran of the United States Army and was honorably discharged.

He is now reunited in glory with (three) brothers Ronald Stevens, Kendall Stevens and Edward Brousard.

Vernon leaves to continue his legacy of love two sons Vernon Abatte Jr. of New Iberia and David Abatte of Kaplan; his parents, Raymond and Thelma Fusilier Abatte of New Iberia; (one) brother, Anthony Abatte of New Iberia; (one) sister, Roxanne Abatte of New Orleans; his companion Vivian Zeaunce her children of New Iberia; stepson Terry Jackson and his mother, Maudry Jackson, both of New Iberia; (two) nephews, Kendall Abatte and Nathan Collins; and a host of other relatives and dear friends who know that earth has no sorrow that heave cannot heal.

Active and honorary pallbearers will be members of the family.

Arrangements entrusted to Journet and Bolden Funeral Home of New Iberia.
