Services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, September 26, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with Rev. Merle Hoots officiating.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm Thursday, September 25, at Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck.
Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Ruth was born on July 24, 1924, in Wishek, ND, the daughter of John and Magdalena Aipperspach and was raised in the Tappen area. She married Andrew Geist on November 15, 1941, and they made their homes in Tappen, Steele, and Bismarck. Ruth and Andy had three children. Andy passed away on December 7, 1975.
Ruth married Clifford Bertsch on June 8, 1976, and they made their homes in Wilton and Bismarck and spent many winters in Arizona. Ruth gained five step-children with her marriage to Clifford. Clifford passed away on July 29, 2012.
Throughout her life, Ruth worked at the Woodlawn Café, managed the Crown Lanes Café and managed the Pirate Inn Café all in Steele and worked at the Holiday Inn and Village Inn in Bismarck.
Ruth loved to play pinochle, visit casinos, have morning coffee, shop, and have lunch at the Senior Center with her friends.
Ruth is survived by her three children and their spouses, Gerald (Eldeen) Geist, Devils Lake, ND, Gary (Pattie) Geist, Mesa, AZ, and Arvadel Bodvig, Lewistown, MT; her five step-children and their spouses, Linda (Chuck) Hanson, Bismarck, John (Kathy) Bertsch, Plainview, TX, Keith (Susan) Bertsch, Mapleton, MN, Faye Miller (Jay Sease), Bismarck, and Lonnie (Jean) Bertsch, Bismarck; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren and 12 step-great-grandchildren.
Ruth was preceded in death by her first husband, Andy Geist; her second husband, Clifford Bertsch; her son-in-law, Duane Bodvig; six brothers; three sisters; and nine step-brothers and step-sisters.
