Mr. Robert “Bobby” Abbott, Sr. age 68, Jonesborough, went to be with his Savior on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his family, after a brief illness.
Mr. Abbott was born January 27, 1946 in Kingston, TN and son of the late James Esco & Maude Johnson Abbott. He was also preceded in death by brothers and sisters, James Esco Abbott, Jr., Joyce Abbott Clower, Jackie Abbott, Jerry Abbott, and Paul David Abbott.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Abbott attended Roane County High School, where he was a member of the football team, and the University of Kentucky with a football scholarship.
Mr. Abbott retired from General Motors after 30 years of service.
He was an avid outdoor sportsman.
Survivors include his wife and high school sweetheart of 47 years, Charlotte A. Lewallen Abbott, Jonesborough; son and daughter-in-law, Robert L. & Tonya Abbott; daughter and son-in-law, Kristin Abbott & James P. Stetz; grandchildren, Brooke Calhoun, Elizabeth Deakins, Courtnie Stetz and Makayla Buckingham; and several nephews and nieces.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of 5200 at the Johnson City Medical Center for their wonderful care.
Funeral services will be conducted 8:00 PM Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at the Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. David Reece officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital 501 St. Jude’s Place Memphis, TN 38105.
