TOPEKA—Alta Jo Kitt, Osage City, died Oct. 11, 2014, at a Topeka hospital. She was 71.

She was born June 16, 1943, at Topeka, the daughter of Asa and Esther Tindell Abney. She lived in Lyndon and Osage City for many years and in Auburn for a time before moving back to Osage City.

She graduated from Osage City Rural High School in 1961. She worked for Hallmark Cards in Topeka, and Osage City, then at Peterson’s Nursing Home, Osage City, and several convenience store in Lyndon and Osage City.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Osage City, and the United Presbyterian Church, Lyndon, for over 50 years combined. She was a former member of the Harveyville Rebekah Lodge No. 616 where she was Noble Grand and district secretary. She was elected to receive the Decoration of Chevory. She was a former member of the Shawnee LEA, the Topeka and Wamego LEA No. 36 and Topeka Patiark Auxiliary Miliant No. 3. She was active in the Robert Heizer American Legion No. 198 Auxiliary Unit, Osage City, serving as president for many years.

She married Alvin Kitt in 1962, at Osage City. They later divorced.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her little dog and constant companion, Gizzie.

She is survived by a brother, Eber Abney, Manhattan; a friend, Carol Bolyard, Osage City; and many cousins.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Oct. 16 at Feltner Funeral Chapel, Lyndon. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to services. She will be cremated following services and her ashes will be inurned in the Osage City Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or H. Dale Buck Animal Welfare and sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451.
