Gladys Elizabeth Adams, 87, of Cumberland passed away at home on November 17, 2014. She was the daughter of the late Alexander (Bouncy) Banton and Lillian Christian Banton of Buckingham. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Adams, Jr., a daughter, Sandra Kay and two brothers, Garnett and Alex Banton; four sisters, Ada Banton, Mary Etta Wood, Inez Stinson and Burnell Amos. She is survived by two sons, Calvin (Butch) Murphy of Chesterfield and Michael Todd Murphy (Melodie) of Indianapolis, IN; a daughter, Carol Rhoden (Glenn) of Cumberland; a sister, Gracie Hudnall of Richmond; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and lots of nieces and nephews. A special thanks to Hospice of Virginia for their great care and a special caregiver, Beth Scruggs. The family will receive friends at the Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn on Wednesday, November 19th from 6 until 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on November 20th at noon with interment to follow at Salem United Methodist Church.
