Arnold was born to Alfred and Anna (Stevenson) Adsem. His three sisters were Agnes, Norma and Lorraine. His three brothers were Larry, Leo and Duane. Arnold learned the meaning of hard work as he was growing up.
He joined the navy in 1941. In January 1945, he married Lola Clark in Missoula, MT. They had three children: Clark, Loralee, and Sally. After the war, he operated the Texaco service station in Hettinger.
Surviving are his special companion, Virginia Muggerud, her children, Dave, Todd, Michele, and Melissa Mugerud, and his three children. and fourteen grandchildren.
