Pauline O. "Bailey" Parrish Long Garmong

Pauline O. Garmong, 91, lifelong resident of Newton County, Indiana, died Monday, December 1, 2014, in the home of her daughter in Connersville, IN, where she had been in failing health for several months.

Pauline was born March 2, 1923, in Roselawn, Indiana, the tenth of twelve children born to parents Perry O. and Aggie B. Cox Bailey.

She attended Roselawn School and Morocco High School and was a member of the Brook United Methodist Church.

Pauline was married to the late Noble E. Parrish, in 1939. She married Robert Jr. Long in 1945. They made their home in Brook and were married for 45 years until his death in 1990. She married Richard Garmong Sr. of Morocco in 1994 and he preceded her in death in 2011.

Pauline was devoted to her family and was a diligent worker during her lifetime. She was a caregiver and friend to many people and worked along with her husband Robert Jr. Long in their grocery store in Brook. Long's Family Foods operated under their leadership form 1965 until they retired in 1985. She enjoyed traveling, reading, making candy and talking and laughing with family and friends over a cup of hot tea. Pauline was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Pauline is survived by one son, Donald E. Parrish, (wife, Mary Jane) of Brook, a daughter, Carol Long Hathaway, (husband, Jerry) of Connersville, IN. and two sisters, Stella Rainford of Clinton, Illinois, and Hettie Abbott of Rensselaer, IN. Surviving grandchildren are Holly Hathaway, Michele Hathaway Shinn, (husband, Fred), Adam Parrish, (wife, Tammey), Rebecca Hathaway Snyder, (husband, Harry), and Aaron Butler, (wife, Angela). Surviving great grandchildren are Bethany Hancock, Michael Parrish, Skyler Shinn, Hannah Shinn, Haleigh Parrish, Alex Snyder, Matthew Snyder, Brody Butler, and many extended family members and friends.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Pauline was preceded in death by an infant son: brothers Oscar Bailey, Chester Bailey, Edgar Bailey (infant), Charles Bailey, Robert Bailey (infant), and beloved twin brother Paul Bailey; sisters Maude Golden, Flora Hiff and Ethel Harsha.

Friends may call at the Gerts Funeral Home, Brook, Indiana, on Friday, December 5, 2014 from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at 11:00 A.M. (CST), with Richard E. Gerts officiating.

Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Brook, IN. The family request that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Brook Volunteer Fire Department.
