Appointed Postmaster Stanuton, VA, June 1. 1853. He was also a Justice of the Peace.
S.S.Abney was born in Augusta Co., VA in 1813 and moved to Salina Co., MO in 1855. In 1856 he removed to Versailles his present home. In 1858 he was elected to the legislature by a flattering majority and refused to be a candidate for re-election in 1860. On the resignation of Hon. John Papin, State Senator from the 28th District, Mr Abney was nominated for the vacancy and elected by a large majority...per Commonwealth of Missouri, a Centennial Record by Rufus Barns.
Family states S.S. & Martha Jane Davis Abney are buried in "A Field" in Stover, Morgan Co., MO. Will place in Davis for now.
