Genevieve "Genny" Lucy Becnel Abadie, born December 9, 1928, was a longtime resident of Vacherie. She passed from this life to her heavenly home on Thursday, January 1, 2015, at the age of 86. She was a devoted Catholic and a prayer line warrior. She was a phenomenal wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and confidant, and many in her community called her mom. She had a passion for people, cooking and loved flowers. She was an avid Saints and LSU fan.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Vacherie, LA on Monday, January 5, 2015 from 8:30AM till the time of Mass at 11:00AM. Interment will follow in the church mausoleum.
She is survived by her five children, Daniel Abadie and friend Fe, Susan Turcotte and husband Hines, Donald Abadie, Robert Abadie and wife Sarah, and Marie Laborde and husband Glenn; seven grandchildren, Byron Abadie, Jenny Hebert, Cindy Thibodaux, Andre Abadie, Adam Abadie, Tessa Faucheux and Erica McAllister; 7 step grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 10 step great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her "sailor man" Donald, who was the love of her life. She was the last surviving child of Elucia Stein and Robert Becnel; eight brothers, Olan, Curtis "Frere", Glenn, Roland, Mark, Michel, Remie and Johnny Becnel, one sister, Jeanne Irene Becnel.
The family would like to thank the staff at OLOL, Sage Rehabilitation Hospital staff, St. Joseph Hospice and Dr. Donepudi and staff. Special thank you to her wonderful home caregivers, Grace Harry, Leona Gibson, Lavette Butler and Cheryl Lumar.
