ALAN, JAMES A.
FORMER LOCAL RESIDENT DIES AT GOLDFIELD
James A. Alan, former business man of this city, who in 1868-70 conducted a
grocery store on York street in the building later occupied by the Frazier
furniture store and later was associated with Charles Ryder in the shoe
business at the site of the present Dempsey building, is dead at Goldfield,
Nevada. Messages received by relatives her conveyed the news today.
Mr. Alan, who left Manitowoc in 1878 and was with the Bullock Shoe Co., of
Chicago, died as the result of an operation at Goldfield, Nev. Mr. Alan was
74 years of age and is survived by his wife, one daughter, Edwina, and a son,
Byron. One brother, the Rev. W.T. Alan of Greenville, P., and one sister,
Mrs. W.W. DeLano of this city also survive. Mr. Alan will be remembered by
many older residents of the city.
