James Abbott
ADA-Services for James Elmore Abbott, 87, Ada, are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Gary Jamar will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Abbott died Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, at an Ada hospital. He was born April 13, 1927, to Barnabas “Barney” and Ruby A. Elmore Abbott. He attended Pecan Grove and Latta Schools and Oklahoma Baptist University and East Central University. He was a machine shop supervisor for American Airlines and retired from American Airlines in 1984. Mr. Abbott served in the United States Navy during World War II and in the United States Air Force from 1949 to 1955. He retired from the United States Air Reserve in 1967. He was a member of Morris Memorial Baptist Church.
He and Birdie Goodman were married in 1989.
Survivors include his wife, Birdie, of the home; a daughter, Judy Abbott and her husband Ralph LaRue, Nacogdoches, Texas; a son, John Alan Abbott and his wife Sara, Harlingen, Texas; one grandson, James Norman “Jimi” Abbott; and two aunts, Myrtle Cooper and Carolyn Aday, both of Ada.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jim Abbott.
Bearers will be Jerry Dyer, Don Price, David Abbott, Lynn Porter, Jack Aday and Elzie Priest. Honorary bearers will be Bill Osborn and Marvin Byers.
