Eunice Anita Grandy was born on Feb. 21, 1914. She was one of eight children born to William Erve Abney and Lessie Pearl Long. She was born on the family homestead at the foot of the Snowy Mountains near Judith Gap, Mont. She attended elementary school at Hyde Creek Country School and graduated from Judith Gap School in l933.

She married Verle R. Grandy on June 18, 1935, and moved to East Helena where she lived the next 70 years. The last 18 months were spent at Aspen Garden Assisted Living in Helena. She retired from Schodair Children's Hospital after 22 years as a nurses aid.

She is survived by a brother, Wayne Abney; son, Gene (Lonnie); daughters, Norma (Charlie) Rate, Anita (Tom) Grant, Bonnie Jo Issak and Sharon (Roger) Glasoe. Eunice had 18 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Verle and grandson, Jerry; her sisters, Verde, Ruth, Jessie, and Eula; and brothers, Mike and Neil.

A memorial service will be conducted at the East Helena United Methodist Church, 50 Prickly Pear, on Saturday, May 20, 2006, at 2 p.m., with Pastor Dave Greep officiating. Interment to be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements of services have been entrusted to Hagler-Anderson Funeral Home.
