Benjamin and Margaret were the parents of six sons with all of them fighting in the Civil War. Ephriam died of wounds he received in the war and is buried in Marietta National Cemetery, Marietta, Cobb County, Georgie. He was 18 years old.

Charles (1843-1914) enlisted as a private in Co. F 81st OH Infantry. He was wounded at the Battle of Shiloh and was discharged. He stayed home for a year and reenlisted in the 32nd OH Volunteer Infantry. Pvt. Ridenour was with General Sherman on his march to the sea. After serving three years and six months, Charles was discharged and was paid a $14.00 per month pension.

John (1848-1922) was a member of Co. D 163rd OH Infantry.

Francis was enlisted in Co. A 187th OH Infantry.

Robert was accidentally shot by a drunken cowboy. However, the bullet passed through both legs. The wounds were not fatal, but Robert's poor health was the cause of his death.
