Paul was born to Frederick and Pauline Marohn Affeldt on 11 November 1882. Some say he was born on the ship coming to America, but the ship manifest, listing the family, is dated having landed in Baltimore on 9 June 1883; Paul is stated to have been 2/12 months of age. Paul is said to have traveled throughout the US. He had 3 wives, the last marriage when he was 80 years old. He had one daughter, Pauline Alma Ball, who was illegitimate. He never married her mother, Rose Ball. Paul also did a stint at San Quentin prison, in Marin County, California. He seemed to finally settle down in his later years,living in California for 40 years and settling in the Long Beach area. Throughout his life, he worked at being a farmer. He died at the age of 83 due to bilateral pneumonitis and carcinoma of the biliary tract.
