MSGT Robert L. James, Retired, passed away on March 27, 2015 at his home following a 5 year battle with cancer.

He was born in Jamestown, New York on December 6, 1949 to Clarence and Pauline (Bishop) James both now deceased.

Robert served active duty with the United States Army in Vietnam, Iraq, Kosovo and Afghanistan, and was in the Army Reserves for over 30 years. He retired from active duty on December 6, 2009.

He also worked at Saginaw Steering Gear/Delphi for over 30 years.

On August 27, 1977, he married the former Julie Rupprecht of Richville, Michigan, she survives him. He also leaves a daughter, Jenna (Doug) Mathews, grandchildren: Julia Low, Anthony and Ryan Mathews, his mother-in-law, Donna Schoenow, his brothers and sisters: Bill James, Don James, Ron James (now deceased), Cheryl (Lynn) Childs, Pam (Mike) Carnes and Clarence "Bud" James; a sister-in-law, Audrey (Greg) Kostrezwa and her children, Kelsey and Grant, as well as special friends and God-niece, Ed and Goody Bueche and Marissa.

Funeral service was held on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Michael Lutheran Church in Richville, Michigan. The Rev. Robert Gadeken and the Rev. Wes GIllaspie officiated with burial following in St. Michael's Cemetery.

The Army was the most important thing in his life and his greatest love. He volunteered for many missions and was proud of the units and soldiers that he served with. The end of every deployment was the beginning of preparing for the next one. His diagnosis with cancer was the start of the last battle he fought and he did his best to beat it for over 5 years.
