DEATH OF A PIONEER
Mr. Philip S. Judy, of Columbus Township
Mr. Philip S. Judy, one of the oldest and most widely known farmers in Adams county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Presley Stump, near Columbus, at 4 o'clock yesterday morning, aged 84 years. Mr. Judy was one of the pioneers of Illinois, locating here in early times, and for more than half a century has been one of the leading farmers in this section. He was for many years an extensive stock raiser and dealer and at one time had title to 1,200 acres of land. As his children were married he divided his holdings and of late years has enjoyed the rest that comes with the advancing years of an active and successful life.
An officer and stockholder in the Adams county fair, he formerly took great interest in the success of that enterprise and was a familiar figure during fair week. Of a rugged nature and of a kindly heart, Mr. Judy was a man who made many friends during his long and busy life.
Besides his wife he leaves five daughters and one son, Mrs. Annie Cook, of Leon, Kan., Mrs. C. Aaron, Mrs. E. L. Grosh, of Big Neck, E. F. Judy, of Golden, Mrs. G. P. Stump, of Columbus, and Philip Judy, Jr., of Paloma. The funeral will take place at Columbus, Monday, at 2 p.m.
