Wife of John W Achord, mother to Thomas Arthur and Henry Clifford Achord.

The following is a journal entry by Joseph Travis Fincher about the death of his daughter, Prudence Emma Fincher Achord. The Fincher and Achord families lived in Pike County, where Joseph was a prosperous farmer, having moved there as an infant in 1823-1824. As will be noted from reading this journal entry, he is clearly distressed. His spelling, somewhat worse than in his other diary entries, illustrates his abstraction at the illness and death of his daughter. The gathering of family and neighbors is indicative of the spirit of the yeomen farmers of the south who willingly provided help and compassion in times of sorrow. The spelling and (lack of) punctuation is exactly as found in the diary.
