Former Laurel Child Dies in Cody Accident
CODY, Wyo. - July 21 - (AP) - As his mother watched, horrified, one-year-old James Walter Smidt toddled into the street and was crushed beneath the dual wheels of a big truck.
The child was playing outside while his father, Jack Smidt, talked to a friend on the sidewalk. Unnoticed Jimmie went into the street just as his mother came to the apartment window.

A coroner's jury ruled that the death of 1-year-old James Walter Smidt, under the dual wheels of a big truck was accidental. The jury absolved the driver of the oil truck which instantly killed the tot, of any blame for an "unavoidable accident."
