Leif served as a medic and truck driver in the U.S. Army during World War II from November 1940 to August 1945. LaVonne worked many years as an LVN and hospital dietician. They started their family in South Dakota, where farming sustained them for many years. Throughout those years, they relocated their family back and forth from South Dakota to Southern California, where Leif was a truck driver extraordinaire. He drove for many companies there, finally retiring his trucking career from Thrifty Ice Cream at age 80.
Leif and LaVonne were very devoted to serving our Lord through their commitments to the Evangelical Free Church of North Hollywood and its people. Hours too numerous to count were devoted to care-taking, cooking, serving and unselfishly giving to all who attended. They were not ordinary people; they were extraordinary people. The family will be forever grateful for the lessons they instilled; raising their children and theirs to embrace and practice enduring love, truth, a strong work ethic, kindness, generosity, gratitude and the love of God.
Leif and LaVonne leave behind three adoring children: Sandy McCleneghan, Peggy Jones (Doug) and Gary Aalberg (Marty); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and their families; and of course, many loyal friends. They were preceded in death by their daughter, Kathy Aalberg-Cowger (Larry) in 2013.
Services and interment were held at Eternal Valley in Newhall, Calif., where enumerable loved ones attended to celebrate their lives.
We all greatly miss you both every day, but know we will reunite in God’s time. Until then, pray for us to keep your legacy and live our lives as you so lovingly taught."
