Born January 13, 1917, in Stanford, Indiana, the daughter of Cleo Turner and Iva M. (Burch) Turner Weaver, Phyllis married Charles Abbott on September 2, 1938, in DeKalb; he preceded her in death in 2010.
Phyllis was a former employee at Northern Illinois University in food services for 14 years. She was an active member of Malta Congregational Church, chairman of the Women’s Fellowship for several years, and a member of Malta Women’s Club. She was also retired from being a trustee for the Malta Library Board for many years.
She is survived by her son, Dennis (Joanne) Abbott of Malta; grandchildren, Michele Baker of Springfield, and Bob (Patti) Abbott and Todd (Jeana) Abbott, both of Malta; great-grandchildren, Lauren Patterson, Zackary Abbott, Brittany (Brandon) Schaneberg and Kailey Abbott; her sister, Dorothee Aves; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her stepsisters and -brothers, and her brother-in-law.
A private service for immediate family will take place at Anderson Funeral Home.
