Roger Merle Aaker, 64, Bismarck, passed away on June 22, 2006, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Roger was born on September 29, 1941, in New Rockford, ND, the son of Ingvald and Eva (Bartlett) Aaker. He was raised and educated in McHenry, ND, and graduated from high school in 1959. Roger graduated from Valley City State Teacher's College and began his teaching career in a rural school near New Rockford. He moved to Cathay, ND where he was 7th and 8th grade teacher, grade school basketball coach and assistant high school basketball coach for eleven years. He married Helen Martin on May 29, 1964, at Cathay. They had two children Aaron and Colin "Butch".

Roger moved the family to Sykeston, ND, where he taught 7th and 8th grade at Sykeston Public School, as well as coached basketball in the elementary grades. Roger became elementary principal at North Shore Elementary in Ryder, ND, and then Cannonball Elementary in Cannonball, ND. Due to ill health, Roger was forced to retire from his teaching and coaching career in 1987. As a young man, Roger became an avid Dodgers baseball fan and enjoyed small game hunting. The past few years the Cleveland Indians had become Roger's favorite team as his nephew, Travis Hafner (Pronk), is the usual designated hitter/1st base. It brought so much pleasure to him to watch "Pronk" play baseball each day on T.V. Roger enjoyed reading history books as well as watching history T.V. shows and completing crossword puzzles every day.

Having shared and brought much joy to his life are his sons, Aaron (Chris) of Columbia, MO, and Colin "Butch" (Grace) of Bismarck; his grandchildren, Ashley, Lisa, Laura, and Scott, all of Bismarck, and Ethan of Columbia, MO; his sisters, Maxine Willows of Mandan, ND, Judy White of Wichita, KS, and Cathy Allen of Okmulgee, OK; several nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts; and special friends Linda Anderson and Sheri Zeller.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ingvald and Eva Aaker and his brother Dennis.

Burial in the Lakeview Cemetery, Cathay, ND.
