John "Jack" "Jackie" Cabell Acree, Jr., born August 24, 1937, at Newtown, VA, died Sunday, June 28, 2015 at home, "Fleetwood," near Millers Tavern, VA, where he grew up and lived a good part of his life.

Jack served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Bamberg, Germany, in the early 1960s.

Jack spent much of his career as a sales representative of Dun & Bradstreet; trained and raced harness horses with his brother, Turp; and concluded owning and operating a decorative flower growing and distribution concern.

As a proud alumnus of the Corps of Cadets of Virginia Tech, Jack was an enthusiastic VPI football fan and gloried in the run of victories Tech has had over arch rival UVA, and he was an ardent quail hunter for most of his life.

Jack was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Bates Acree; his brother, Ryland Turpin "Turp" Acree; his wife, Olivette "Dette" Bradford; and his first cousins, Jimmy Acree and Frances Turpin Dillard.

He is survived by his sister, Nora "Biddy" Acree Walker (who took wonderful care of him), her husband, Carroll Lee Walker; his brother, William "Bill-O" Acree (with whom he lived); his children, sons, Cabell Acree and William Acree (Leslie); and daughter, Sara Acree Brooks (Jeff); his grandchildren, Ligon Brooks, Corbin Brooks, Neely Acree, Ellie Acree and Bates Acree; his nieces and nephew, Turpin Acree II, Mary Acree Motley and Carlee Walker Mann; and his great-nephews, Ryland Turpin Acree III and William Walker Acree Mann.

A graveside service Was held at 11am on Saturday, July 11, 2015, at Fleetwood Farm near Millers Tavern, VA.
