She was born the third child of Harry Shook and Emma Christensen on Feb. 27, 1913 in Newell. She lived part of her life in Sacramento, Calif. before coming to Everett, Wash. four years ago.
She was an accomplished pianist and seamstress. She worked many years as a bookkeeper. She was married to her husband, Charles Carey, for 50 years and raised three children.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and two sons: James William and Jerry Lee.
Gladys is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Carder, nine grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren and her sister, Marjorie Abel of Spencer. (Spencer Daily Reporter, Spencer, IA, February 28, 2007)
