Calvin L. Adams of Sterling was born Sept. 17, 1934, in Imperial, Neb., and died Aug. 1, 2015, in Sterling.

Calvin was born to Herbert Adams and Velma Cranwell Adams. He attended school in Imperial until ninth grade, when he made the decision to leave school to help support his family by working farm jobs in the region.

Calvin married Valetta Gaunt Dec. 25, 1953. Calvin worked many different jobs in his lifetime. During the beginning of Calvin and Valetta’s marriage, he worked in Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska in heavy equipment road construction. After leaving construction, he began working at the United States Air Force site in Colorado Springs.

Once he finished working for the Air Force, he began a career in truck driving, where he worked for many different companies from 1958-69. In 1970, Calvin left the truck driving career path and began working as a cowboy at 20 Bar Ranch. After working for 20 Bar Ranch for a good amount of time, Calvin and his family moved to Wyoming to continue his career, only to once again return to Colorado to work in New Raymer.

Once back in Colorado, he moved to Sterling and became the groundskeeper at the Logan County Fairgrounds. In 1979, Calvin moved to Yuma to work at Wards Feedlot until 1986. In 1986, he moved north of Wray to work as a maintainer operator until 1997.

At the age of 63, Calvin retired to spend quality time with his family. In 2002, Calvin’s first wife Valetta died. After spending time with his family, Calvin moved to Fleming, where he met his second wife, LaVanda Snoody. Calvin and LaVanda finally settled down in Sterling.

Calvin was preceded in death by his wife, Valetta Gaunt Adams; and his only son, Rick Adams.

He is survived by six daughters, sons-in-law, 23 grandchildren; and 50 great-grandchildren.
