Mrs. Barbara Ann Abernathy, age 75, of Ducktown, TN, passed away August 1, 2015 in the Life Care Center of Copper Basin. Born in McCaysville, GA, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Henry and Cara Belle Pope Harris. She had worked for Ducktown Bank and later with Inventory Control for the Tennessee Chemical Company. She was a long time member of the Mine City Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Terry Abernathy of the Home; son, Kyle Edward Abernathy; daughter and son-in-law, Julia "Sissy" Henry and husband, Rex all of Hixson, TN; two brothers and sisters-in-laws, Max and Glenda Harris of Lawrenceville, GA and Kenneth and Pat Harris of Acworth, GA; three grandchildren, Mason Henry, Ethan Abernathy and Mark Abernathy.
Funeral Services were conducted on Monday, August 3, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Keith Smith officiating. Music was provided by the Mine City Trio. Interment followed in the Zion Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were C.H. Loudermilk, Jim Byrd, Ryan Pittman, Dennis Ledford, Mike Davis and Lawrence Hoogendoorn. The Senior Adult Men's Sunday School Class served as an honorary escort.
