Dorothy “Mickey” L. Hoerner, 90, “was called home to be with her Lord and Savior” on Aug. 13, 2015.

Mickey was born July 11, 1925, in Great Falls, as the third child of Lavance Warner and Laura Cobb Warner. After Lavance’s death, Laura moved her family first to Livingston, for a few years before settling down in Columbia Falls, where Mickey received her education.

On Feb. 18, 1944, Mickey married Vincent Hoerner in Kennewick, Washington. Together they raised their eight children.

Mickey was happy to be a homemaker and was an avid reader, continuing to enjoy novels even through her final months. She could complete two to three books a week. She also enjoyed tending to her flowers and spent hours on the sidelines of various sports events to cheer on her grandchildren. Some of her most cherished moments have been at the large family gatherings, such as Christmas Eve, where anywhere from 45-60 children, spouses, and grandchildren come together after attending church services.

She was also an active member of St. Richard’s Catholic Church for many years. She was a volunteer at the local grade school where she helped younger children with math skills by teaching them how to play cribbage during lunch breaks. Although she occasionally worked part time jobs, she was most content being at home with her family.

She is preceded in death by one son, Raymond Hoerner, in 1967; her husband of 47 years, Vincent, in 1991; a daughter-in-law, Wendy Hoerner; her parents; two brothers, and one sister.

She is survived by seven children, Marge Gordon, Ed and Linda Hoerner, Gary Hoerner, Ben and Carol Hoerner, Mary and Nick Morstad, Theresa Jackson, and JoAnn and Terry Haverkorn. She has 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

A rosary vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. on Aug. 17, at Columbia Mortuary. Funeral services will be on Aug. 18, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. Richards Catholic Church.

Columbia Mortuary is caring for Mickey’s family.
