Gerald “Jerry” E. Hines, 77, died August 12, 2015 at home under Midland Hospice care. He was born Nov. 3, 1937 to Edwin and Maxine (Kane) Hines and was raised in Meriden, Kansas. Jerry served and retired from the U S Army with 38 years total military service. He retired as administrator of the Leavenworth Veterans Administration after 32 years.

He had a farm at Frazier, Missouri where he raised and showed quarter horses and registered Black Angus. Jerry enjoyed his animals, playing card games and traveling. He was an amazing true friend to so many people and will be missed by all who knew him throughout the many chapters of his life.

After marrying his wife, Wanda,they moved to Venice, Florida for retirement. Living in Venice for the past 12 years he continued a very enjoyable active life and developed new wonderful friendships.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jetta Hines Abbott. He is survived by his wife, Wanda of the home; his son, Christopher A. Hines of Palm Springs, California; his brother, Robert and wife Gloria; two sisters, Jan Hutt and Phyllis Livingston; as well as many loving and supportive nieces and nephews and his loving doggie companion, LillyBelle.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday August 19, 2015 at Mt. Hope Mausoleum Chapel, 4700 SW 17th, Topeka, KS . Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to or Midland Hospice Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, Kansas 66606 or Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 2lst Topeka Kansas 66604 or Treasures Thrift Store C/O Tidewell Hospice, 210 Wexford Blvd. Venice, FL 34293 where Jerry was a faithful volunteer.
